Touring the Panorama Route from Stonecutters Lodge, Dullstroom

Pilgrims'Rest was on route to Kruger National Park led me to put together a day tour from Stonecutters Lodge through the Highlands Meander into the lowveld. The guest sent back an interesting letter which I thought I might share with you:

“We were so pleased that we had decided on accommodation in Dullstroom staying at Stonecutters as our plane was delayed and it was almost dark when we arrived at your lovely lodge. The excellent dinner, a good bottle of red wine and your very comfortable beds ensured that we slept like babies.

With the help of your graphic touring map we had no trouble with the route and started out over the Long Tom Pass which was spectacular and reminded us of Chapman’s  Peak in Cape Town (just minus the sea)! We didn’t stop in Sabie (which was a picturesque little town) but went on to Pilgrim’s Rest.

It is obvious why the town has been declared a National Monument as one could really picture the gold panners of old going about their business. We stopped at the viewsites at Mac Mac Falls, Gods Window and Bourke’s Luck Potholes and passed the Three Rondavels – that entire Blyde River Canyon area is magnificent.

 Through the Strydom Tunnel we couldn’t resist buying some curios from the roadside stalls and then it was on to Hoedspruit for the night before an early start to Kruger……”
